People seem to have an inborn fear of spiders and some researchers suggest that around 50% of women and 10% of men even have a mild to severe “arachnophobia,” or irrational fear of spiders. Like most phobias the reaction of these people to anything even associated with spiders, is intense fear.
Based on this research and the fact that the vast majority of people feel at least extremely uncomfortable around spiders, whether real or imaginary, you must add spiders to the mix of your spooky Halloween decor. Your visitors and guests will be creeped-out, as they surely expect to be!
There are many awesome horror movies devoted to the spider as a mutant monster. You could actually build an entire Halloween scenario around this, using Gigantic Spiders, spider webs and a number of clever props, such as a corpse wrapped-up in a spider web (like a cocoon) .
Use your imagination and let your creativity run wild. But remember, if you want to create a truly frightening and scary Halloween, don’t leave out the Halloween spider decorations! Whether to enhance your haunted house or as a focus of your decor, the spider won’t let you down!
Horror movies featuring spiders range from the humorous to the cheesy to the creepy. The 1990 movie “Arachnophobia” about killer spiders invading a small California town was on the comedic side for sure and starred John Goodman and Jeff Daniels no less. New venomous species from South America, breeding out of control in a barn in California – well you get the picture.
And who can forget 1977′s “Kingdom of the Spiders,” starring William Shattner along with 5,000 live Tarantulas! This movie is best remembered for the graphic scenes of Tarantulas devouring various animals and people.
Then more recently, The SciFi Channel’s “Ice Spiders” was released in 2007. Genetically altered spiders are on the rampage at a ski resort terrorizing young skiers, who are awaiting rescue from incompetent lab officials, who are attempting to round up the spiders. Yawn.
Actually, what we need is a truly scary spider movie? A new spider movie, “Camel Spider” is due to be released sometime in 2010 – we can only wait and hope.
